What Is Basketball Training for Kids?
Basketball training for kids is a structured sports programme that teaches children fundamental skills, including dribbling, passing, shooting, and teamwork, through age-appropriate coaching and progressive practice. Beyond the physical skills, basketball builds communication and the kind of resilience that only comes from competing and improving within a group.
The World Health Organisation recommends at least 60 minutes of daily physical activity for children aged 5 to 17. Most children in Hong Kong fall well short of that. A weekly basketball session changes that immediately and makes physical activity something children genuinely look forward to.
Shaolin Basketball, AAS's Basketball Programme in Hong Kong
Shaolin Basketball is the basketball programme delivered by Asia Adventure Sport across multiple locations in Hong Kong. It offers professional coaching for kids and teens in a fun, energetic, and structured environment. Whether your child has never touched a basketball or already plays regularly at school, Shaolin Basketball meets them at their current level and builds from there. The programme is coached by experienced instructors who understand both the technical side of basketball and how to work with young players. Parents who have watched their children train with Coach Gio know the difference between a coach who teaches basketball and one who genuinely connects with kids. Free taster classes are available. There is no better way to find out if it is the right fit for your child than to try a session first.
What Skills Does Your Child Develop?
Basketball develops the whole child, not just the athlete. At Shaolin Basketball, sessions build core skills on and off the court. As Adam Martin shared about his two children training with Coach Gio, they are learning about hoops, sportsmanship, and grit. That balance is exactly what Shaolin Basketball is built around.
Dribbling
Teaches ball control with both hands, moving with confidence across the court
Passing
Improves reading the court, finding teammates, and making good decisions under pressure
Shooting
Involves proper form and technique, which are built progressively as players grow stronger
Teamwork
Communicating, supporting teammates, and learning what it means to play as a unit
Sportsmanship
Winning with humility, losing with character, and respecting the game
What Does a Shaolin Basketball Session Focus On?
Professional coaches at AAS venues across Hong Kong lead every Shaolin Basketball session. Sessions cover the core fundamentals that every young basketball player needs to develop: dribbling, passing, shooting, and teamwork. Players train in a fun, energetic environment that keeps them challenged and moving from start to finish. The programme is designed for kids and teens. Whether your child is just starting out or already plays regularly, the coaching team adapts to where each player is and builds from there.

Why Choose Shaolin Basketball at AAS?
For families looking for a deeper outdoor experience during school holidays, AAS runs Forest School summer camps at Perma Club, Clearwater Bay. These are full-day, multi-day programmes that give children extended time in nature and the chance to develop skills progressively across the week.
According to data from the Hong Kong Recreation and Sports Department, structured outdoor camps help children develop independence and social skills 40% faster than single-day programmes due to the extended time spent in challenging environments.
What the summer camp includes:
- Full-day sessions running from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, five days per week
- Progressive skill development built day by day across the week
- Themed weeks such as Survival Skills, Nature Detective, and Forest Artists
- Extended group building projects and nature journal activities
- Guest visits from ecologists, park rangers, and outdoor specialists
- A final day showcase for families to see what their children have built and learned
These camps sit alongside our wider range of holiday camps for kids across Hong Kong and are one of the most popular options during Easter and summer breaks.
